CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding and CU Lines Sign Order for Four 6,400 TEU Medium-Sized Containerships
On April 28, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, together with China Shipbuilding Trading, successfully signed an order with CU Lines in Guangzhou for four 6,400 TEU medium-sized containerships. This renewed partnership vividly demonstrates how Huangpu Wenchong has won market confidence through its reputation and attracted customers through its capabilities. It highlights the full trust that established shipowners place in Huangpu Wenchong's products and services and marks an important milestone in deepening the strategic partnership and jointly exploring new horizons in shipping.

The 6,400 TEU containerships contracted under this agreement are designed by the 708th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation and will adopt a conventional fuel propulsion system. The vessels have an overall length of 240 meters, a molded breadth of 42.8 meters, a deadweight tonnage of approximately 80,310 tonnes, and a nominal container capacity of 6,406 TEU, equipped with 1,150 reefer plugs. The design integrates multiple green and energy-saving technologies—including twisted rudder with rudder bulb, energy-saving duct, shaft generator, and high-voltage shore power—delivering outstanding economic and environmental performance. The vessel type is well-suited for Asian regional trunk routes as well as medium-to-long-haul trade lanes such as the US West Coast, the Red Sea, East Africa, and the Eastern Mediterranean, positioning it as a mainstream, high-demand vessel type in the current market.

Previously, Huangpu Wenchong successfully constructed and delivered four 1,900 TEU and two 2,700 TEU containerships for CU Lines. The core performance indicators of these vessels—including fuel consumption and loading efficiency—received high recognition from CU Lines, and the ships have since become the backbone of its operating fleet. Building on the deep trust accumulated through long-term cooperation, CU Lines prioritized Huangpu Wenchong for commercial discussions upon launching this newbuilding project. The project communication was highly efficient and smooth, with various terms quickly concluded and finalized.
Looking ahead, Huangpu Wenchong will continue to uphold its vision of "comprehensively building a world-class shipbuilding enterprise integrating research and development, manufacturing, and service." It will leverage its comprehensive strengths in technology, construction, and service, advancing newbuilding projects to the highest standards to ensure quality and on-time delivery. Through its robust capabilities, it aims to reward customer trust, continue consolidating its leading position in the small and medium-sized containership market, and join hands with global partners to contribute greater strength to the transformation and development of the shipping industry.
