NYK, through its ship management entity NiMiC Ship Management, has appointed Louise Lin as Captain of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Taitar No. 4, a role she has formally commenced. This marks the first instance in NYK's history that a female officer has assumed command of an LNG carrier.

According to NYK, Captain Lin embarked on her maritime career in 2011, joining NiMiC as a deck cadet. By 2015, she had been promoted to Third Officer and commenced full-time service aboard an LNG carrier managed by NiMiC. Over the ensuing years, she consistently honed her professional expertise, delivering outstanding performance across various roles encompassing safe navigation, cargo operations, and shipboard management.

NYK stated that the organization is deeply committed to the active recruitment and training of female seafarers. At present, a significant and growing number of women proudly serve across vessels managed by NiMiC.

Looking ahead, NYK affirmed its intention to continue advancing the development of crew resources across all regions. Through the establishment and expansion of training programs, the company aims to support the growth of local maritime industries while cultivating an environment conducive to the advancement of diverse talent.
